(Concord, NH) – Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) called for immediate action to strengthen and bolster Social Security following the release of the Social Security Administration’s annual report on the current and projected financial status of the Social Security Trust Funds. This report found that Social Security will remain fully funded until 2035, at which point the Trust Fund will require direct appropriations from the Treasury to continue to meet its obligations to seniors.

“The Social Security Administration’s annual report reaffirms my belief that Congress must take immediate actions to strengthen Social Security,” said Kuster. “Social Security is a crucial lifeline for seniors in New Hampshire and across the country and we owe it to older Americans to bolster this program. In the House we stand ready with legislation that will ensure Social Security’s solvency for the next 75 years. The time to act is now, we cannot allow the can to be kicked down the road.”

Kuster is an original cosponsor of the Social Security 2100 Act, which would provide an across-the-board benefit increase for current and future beneficiaries, ensure the annual cost of living adjustment reflects the needs of seniors, and prevent any senior who works their whole life from retiring into poverty. To help ensure solvency, the Social Security 2100 Act requires millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share in payroll taxes.
