NASHUA – U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster, D-N.H., visited Charlotte Avenue Elementary School on Friday to pick up a box of Christmas cheer for the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton courtesy of the students.

Students created Christmas cards for veterans as part of the Congresswoman’s Holiday Cards for Heroes program, in which elementary schoolchildren throughout New Hampshire are invited to create holiday-themed cards for the Tilton facility.

Kuster visited the school to pick up its collection of about 300 cards created by students from first through fourth grades.

“We do a Charlotte Cares project each month. Each month we do a character trait and we focus on it,” Principal Patricia Beaulieu said, noting that patriotism was part of this month’s schoolwide lesson.

“You’ve got snowmen and Christmas trees – you guys are working so hard,” Kuster said as she walked from table to table in Lou Dubois’ class of 20 first-graders.

Youngsters busily took crayons to folded paper to create colorful personalized cards showing a combination of military themes and Christmas symbols.
