Yesterday, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), the founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence, hosted Jane Stapleton, Executive Director of the University of New Hampshire’s Prevention Innovations Research Center, for a discussion on efforts to prevent sexual violence on college campuses. The roundtable was focused on promoting healthy relationships in K-12 education and preventing and responding to sexual violence on college campuses. Stapleton and the University of New Hampshire have been pursuing groundbreaking research in ways to prevent sexual violence including the use of technology and bystander intervention techniques.

“Sexual violence is a challenge that is facing all college campuses and communities across the country,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “Director Stapleton and her team at the University of New Hampshire are making incredible progress in the understanding of sexual violence and how we can reduce this scourge. Innovative solutions such as the use of apps and technology to increase student safety will be an important part of our fight as we move forward. Our Task Force is looking at all solutions to address sexual assault and harassment and I’m grateful to Director Stapleton for sharing her work with our Task Force.”

“To truly end the problems of sexual and relationship violence in K-12 schools and post-secondary education, we must understand what works in prevention and response and then implement evidence-based and research-informed prevention strategies,” said Jane Stapleton. “The best way to proceed in our efforts is to continue to develop scientifically evaluated prevention strategies and implement these evidence-based and research-informed prevention tools in a comprehensive plan that engages all members of the community.”

The Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence is raising awareness and proposing solutions to the challenges posed by sexual assault. Chaired by Representatives Annie Kuster, Patrick Meehan, Jackie Speier, and David Joyce, the task force unites a diverse group of Members of Congress to advocate for legislation to support victims and their families, educate communities to prevent violence, and implement solutions to end sexual assault.
