Last night, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, successfully shepherded her legislation, the Protecting Americans with Pre-existing Conditions Act, through an E&C Subcommittee on Health mark-up session. The bill will go on to be considered by the full committee.

“I will not stand by as the Trump Administration continues its attempts to undermine the Affordable Care Act and hinder access to quality healthcare for millions of Americans,” said Rep. Kuster.  “This legislation would give Americans the peace of mind they deserve by shielding protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions from partisan attacks. I remain committed to working with my colleagues to strengthen and improve access to quality, affordable health insurance for all Americans.”

Rep. Kuster introduced the legislation with Congressman Don Beyer (VA-08), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), a member of the House Education and Labor Committee. The Protecting Americans with Pre-existing Conditions Act (HR 986) would revoke Section 1332 guidance released by the Trump Administration’s U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on October 22, 2018, which weakened protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions.
