Kuster Announces $200 Million Federal Loan for I-93 Expansion Project

This morning, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the statement below on the formal closing of the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) loan by the State of New Hampshire and the N.H. Department of Transportation.

The $200 million loan, administered by the Federal Highway Administration, will help fund the completion of the Interstate 93 expansion project, running from Salem to Londonderry, and will help refurbish as many as 23 Red List bridges and pave up to 1,100 miles of roads across the state:

“A robust and well maintained transportation network is essential to the health, safety and economic well-being of the Granite State,” said Congresswoman Annie Kuster, who worked for nearly two years to secure these federal funds for New Hampshire.  “From the completion of the I-93 expansion project to the restoration of rural roads and bridges, these TIFIA funds will have a deep impact all across the state for years to come.  They will help ensure the safety of our motorists and provide easier access to our businesses.

“I am proud to have worked from the start with the N.H. Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, and Governor Hassan to bring the TIFIA program to New Hampshire,” Kuster said.  “Investment in our infrastructure is investment in our future, and I look forward to continuing our work together in support of our transportation system and the Granite State economy.”

In 2014, Congresswoman Kuster first brought the TIFIA program to the attention of the N.H.  Department of Transportation.  Since then, she has worked with state and federal officials to guide and support the loan application and to bring the funding home to New Hampshire.

Congresswoman Kuster has long advocated for increased federal investment in New Hampshire’s transportation network.  She has proposed legislative solutions for increasing cost-savings at the federal level in order to replenish the Highway Trust Fund in years past and she has toured the I-93 construction project in Windham, the Route 10 bridge replacement project in Winchester, the Route 4 Bridge project in West Lebanon, and the Broad Street Parkway project in Nashua, among others, to highlight the economic and community importance of improving the state’s transportation infrastructure.
