In Westmoreland, Kuster Tours Maplewood Nursing Home

(Westmoreland, NH)-Yesterday, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) toured the Maplewood Nursing Home, which is currently under renovation, and saw the new, 63,000-square-foot wing that is expected to be finished in October. Kuster also met with Maplewood Staff and Cheshire County government officials to view the architectural plans for the new building and renovations and discuss expanding access to quality healthcare for seniors.

“Granite Staters have told me how critical it is for Congress to protect and expand access to quality, comprehensive healthcare,” said Kuster. “As our population ages, we must safeguard Medicaid and invest in programs to help ensure seniors can get the care they need. It was immensely valuable to hear from providers at Maplewood Nursing Home and I look forward to sharing their important insights with my colleagues as we continue our fight to improve healthcare delivery nationwide.”

“Congresswoman Kuster’s visit to Maplewood of Cheshire County allows us to showcase an example of our community’s commitment to honoring our elders through our construction and renovation project,” said Kathryn Kindopp, Administrator at Maplewood Nursing Home. “It also allows us to share our story regarding the impact of the Federal regulatory changes. The implementation of these broad regulations has failed to recognize the negative impact in a challenging workforce environment that has already resulted in many closed beds.”

Kuster has made clear the need to make improvements to the Affordable Care Act and has put forward solutions to improve access to affordable healthcare. Her legislation, the Protecting Americans with Pre-existing Conditions Act, passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support last month. In February, Kuster kicked off a listening tour of hospitals and healthcare centers in New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District. As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, Kuster will highlight the perspective of Granite Staters as she works to lower costs and increase access to healthcare.
