Kuster Shadows Windham Middle School Principal and Kicks Off School Elections

Windham, NH – On October 13, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) shadowed Windham Middle School Principal Patty Wons and met with students, faculty, and Windham School District administration to learn about the school’s latest educational initiatives. During her visit, Kuster also helped to kick off the school’s student council elections.

“I am so appreciative of Principal Wons and the Windham Middle School faculty and students for welcoming me so warmly during my visit today,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “As I talked with students and teachers in their classrooms, it was wonderful to see how the school is fostering a caring, scholastic environment in which Windham’s children can learn and grow. Our children are our future, and it is vitally important that we ensure every child has the opportunities he or she deserves to receive high-quality, affordable education at every level. I am proud to have consistently supported robust funding for public education in New Hampshire and across the country, and I will never stop fighting on our children’s behalf to increase access to education.”

During today’s visit, Windham Elementary School students spoke about their own experiences and shared their questions about Kuster’s work as a U.S. Representative. Kuster also met with the seventh grade classes and helped to kick off their student council elections for the academic year. During her meeting with members of the school and administration, Kuster highlighted her own steps in Congress to strengthen schools across the Granite State, including her recent efforts to ensure that the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act addresses the educational inequality that persists in the United States. The Congresswoman also emphasized the importance and power of parental involvement in children’s schools and the tremendous impact this can have on students’ achievement.

Kuster has long fought to increase access to education for students throughout New Hampshire. Kuster routinely holds roundtables and forums across the state to hear directly form Granite State students and parents about how she can best support quality education at all levels in Congress, and she will continue to meet with students at other schools across the Second District.
