CONCORD, N.H. —

Members of law enforcement from across the state were honored Friday night for their bravery and professionalism.

Congressional Law Enforcement Awards were given out to officers from local departments, Fish and Game officers and state lifeguards.

Some honored for going above and beyond the call of duty: A Nashua officer who put himself in harm's way with an armed subject. Members of the Rochester Police Department and state police who pursued a suspect who ultimately fired shots at them. And members of the Manchester Police Department who worked for days to apprehend a dangerous murder suspect accused of shooting and killing a man in broad daylight.

Others were recognized for their dedication and professionalism, including several Nashua officers who helped to save people in distress who were threatening to jump into the Nashua River.

“New Hampshire's law enforcement officers serve with dedication and bravery,” said Sen. Maggie Hassan at the event.

“The service, commitment, sacrifice demonstrated by each of these individuals being honored is inspirational,” added. U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas.

U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster told those honored, “You are the ones working to save lives and protect our families.”

Franklin police Chief David Goldstein was surprised with the Career Service Award.

“For me, this is an absolute surprise, and it's an honor,” he said.

With more than four decades of law enforcement service, Goldstein has this advice for the men and women just getting started:

“Keep going. It's going to be a rocky road, but they are the new generation. They're the ones that are going to make things better, and we're very happy to pass the baton.”
