Rep. Annie Kuster continued her efforts to stop interest rates on Stafford student loans from doubling this week, sending a letter to House Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and urging them to keep the House of Representatives in Washington until Congress takes action to prevent the rate hike.

“With the threat of a student loan rate hike less than one week away, I urge you to keep the House of Representatives in Washington until Congress takes action to protect students and middle class families who are struggling to pay for college,” Kuster wrote. “As you know, if Congress fails to act, the interest rate on Stafford student loans will double on July 1st, which would force students to pay an average of $1,000 more every year. We cannot allow that to happen. With so much at stake for students and middle class families all across the country, Members of Congress have a responsibility to stay in Washington and keep working until we take action to prevent a rate hike.”
