Kuster Honors Officer Brian Sicknick, Thanks U.S. Capitol and D.C. Metro Police for Their Service

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) honored the life, service, and sacrifice of United States Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick and attended his lying in honor ceremony in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. Officer Sicknick died on January 7th, 2021 from injuries he sustained while defending the U.S. Capitol from mobs of armed insurrectionists seeking to overturn the results of a free and fair democratic election on January 6th.

“To lie in honor in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda is a tremendous honor — one that United States Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick wholeheartedly deserves,” said Kuster. “Officer Sicknick died in the line of duty, defending the U.S. Capitol and our very democracy from mobs of armed, violent domestic terrorists seeking to overturn the results of a free and fair election. My heart is with Officer Sicknick’s family, friends, and colleagues as the country honors and mourns the life of this American patriot.”

“The strength, courage, and patriotism of our U.S. Capitol and D.C. Metro Police officers during the January 6th attack on the Capitol were truly heroic — but the more we learn about the attack, the more clear it becomes that officers on the scene were left wholly underprepared,” Kuster continued. “Nearly 140 officers from U.S. Capitol Police and D.C. Metropolitan Police were injured while defending our democracy — some so gravely injured, their lives will never be the same. This is simply unconscionable. We cannot and will not allow our police officers to be taken for granted. I will continue working to ensure that nothing like this happens again.”
