Kuster-led Legislation To Codify Roe v. Wade And Protect Women’s Rights Passes House

**Today, Rep. Kuster joined a press conference with her colleagues to honor the passage of this historic bill**

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02), voted in favor of legislation she helped introduce, H.R.3755, the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2021. This legislation will codify the constitutional right to an abortion as established in Roe v. Wade, create federal protections against state laws that fail to protect women’s health and that intrude upon personal decision-making, and prohibit medically unwarranted restrictions that single out abortion services or the facilities that provide them.

As of July 2021, 90 reproductive health restrictions have been enacted in the U.S., more than in any year since the Roe v. Wade decision was handed down in 1973. In New Hampshire, the Republican state legislature passed, and Governor Chris Sununu signed into law, a new abortion ban that will take place on January 1, 2022, making any abortion post-24 weeks — even in the case of rape, incest, and fatal fetal anomaly — illegal except in cases of a medical emergency.

“In the past year, we have seen a disturbing attack on women’s reproductive freedoms across the country, including at home in New Hampshire,” said Rep. Kuster. “Safe access to reproductive and preventive care, including abortion, is essential to the health and wellbeing of women and families, and this legislation takes urgent action to protect the reproductive freedoms of all, regardless of the state they live in. I was proud to help introduce this legislation and to see it pass the House today, and I urge the Senate to quickly take up this bill and stand up for individual freedoms.”

Rep. Kuster is a fierce advocate for women’s reproductive freedoms in Congress and in New Hampshire. Earlier this week, Kuster joined the rest of the NH delegation to host a virtual press conference with representatives from New Hampshire family planning providers that will be impacted by the New Hampshire Executive Council’s recent vote to terminate contracts for family planning providers across the state.
