Kuster Highlights Federal Funding Award for Mont Vernon Library Charitable Foundation, Importance of New Hampshire Libraries

Mont Vernon, N.H. — Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) met with leadership of the Mont Vernon Library Charitable Foundation and the New Hampshire State Library to discuss a new $655,000 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) award and how it will be used to support the final design and construction of a new ADA-compliant library building for Mont Vernon and surrounding areas. During the meeting, Rep. Kuster also highlighted the importance of libraries to Granite State communities.

“Our New Hampshire libraries play an essential role in our communities, providing a safe place for Granite Staters of all ages to gather, learn, and explore,” said Rep. Kuster. “It was great to sit down with the leadership at Mont Vernon Library Charitable Foundation today and discuss their exciting new plans to build a more accessible library for the community. Everyone deserves access to books and learning, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of this project.”

"We were delighted to show Representative Kuster the beautiful, historic and tiny Daland Memorial Library today and to review the inspiring new building design with her,” said Cindy Raspiller, President, Mont Vernon Library Charitable Foundation. “We are really looking forward to giving our talented and dedicated staff the modern facilities that will allow them to better support all of our patrons, including those with mobility challenges. We are so appreciative that the National Endowment for the Humanities recognized the significance of this project to the entire Mont Vernon community. This Infrastructure and Capacity Building Challenge Grant will help us make the dream a reality.”

Congresswoman Annie Kuster is a strong advocate for New Hampshire libraries in Congress. The Kuster-backed American Rescue Plan Act included $7.2 billion in additional funding to help public and private schools and public libraries purchase internet access and connected devices for those in need.

Background on the new Mont Vernon library project: The new ADA-compliant building, at 7,600 square feet, would provide increased space for collections and historic materials; dedicated rooms for children, teens, and adults; a performance porch and event lawn; and a flexible community programming room with a capacity of 100 people.
