Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) continued her Housing Week with a tour of the Depot & Main Apartments construction site in Salem and a meeting with Elm Grove staff to hear updates. Later, this afternoon, she toured Friars Court Apartments in Hudson and met with Dakota Partners staff to see firsthand Hudson’s first affordable housing site.

“When I talk to Granite Staters throughout the Second Congressional District, the lack of affordable housing in our state is consistently one of their top concerns,” said Rep. Kuster. “I appreciated the opportunity to tour the Depot & Main Apartments construction site today in Salem and Friars Court Apartments in Hudson. Thank you to the staff from both Elm Grove and Dakota Partners for providing updates on each of these exciting new locations. I’m thrilled to see the expansion of new affordable housing in our communities – increasing the availability of accessible housing goes hand-in-hand with addressing the workforce shortage and bolstering our economy, and I will continue working to support these efforts.”

“Elm Grove Companies is thrilled to be a part of solving NH's affordable housing crises through the development of Depot & Main Apartments and several additional affordable housing developments in NH,” said Chris Schleyer, Principal and Head of Property Management, Elm Grove Companies. “With rental rates steadily climbing and occupancy rates at record low levels we understand the need to invest in affordable housing in our community, and we are committed to being excellent stewards of these developments.”

“Friars Court – which was designed to Certified Passive House standards to ensure high-energy efficiency throughout the year–fills a critical void of affordable housing in Hudson and provides safe and comfortable homes to individuals and families who might otherwise be priced out of the area,” said Dakota Partners principal, Roberto Arista. “Dakota is proud to create much-needed affordable housing in New Hampshire that delivers on our mission to create housing that matters to residents, the community, and the environment.”

Elm Grove Companies began construction on Depot & Main Apartments this summer – the project will bring 74 units of affordable housing to Salem. The project was made possible by Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and Community Development Block Grant Funds. Dakota Partners completed the first phase of Friars Court Apartments earlier this year, comprising 47 units and bringing the first affordable housing property to Hudson. Friars Court is just a short walk from grocery stores and pharmacies. The second phase of the project, an additional 34 units, is scheduled to be completed in the spring.

Congresswoman Kuster cosponsored the bipartisan LIFELINE Act and was instrumental in getting the Treasury Department to unlock an additional $8 billion for affordable housing from the American Rescue Plan Act’s State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund. Rep. Kuster recently voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which has now been signed into law and takes historic action to lower costs for Granite Staters.
