Kuster Meets with Newport Town Officials to Discuss Rural Development Investments

  • Newport

Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) met with Newport officials to discuss funding programs to upgrade its wastewater treatment facility and invest in economic development.

“Investing in the economic competitiveness of Granite State communities is critical to setting up our towns and cities for long-term success,” said Rep. Kuster. “I appreciated the opportunity to hear from Newport officials about federal funding to make significant upgrades to its waste and drinking water systems as well as other town priorities. I’ve been a strong supporter of programs like the Northern Border Regional Commission and USDA-RD which have been helpful in supporting projects in Newport. I look forward to working with the town of Newport and communities throughout New Hampshire to help utilize federal programs to invest in our state’s future.” ”

“The Town of Newport was happy to see Congresswoman Kuster today and to have the chance to discuss the enormity of the infrastructure challenges facing our communities,” said Newport Town Manager Hunter F. Rieseberg. “We are thrilled that some relief might be in sight as we join with our Congressional representative and our federal agency partners from agencies throughout the federal government, who will be helping communities like ours to get this important work done, e.g. wastewater, water infrastructure, highways, bridges, etc. It is long overdue. Our thanks to Senator Shaheen, Congresswomen Kuster, and Senator Hassan for their ongoing support – we could not do this without their efforts.”

Kuster is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and has led the way toward ensuring everyone has access to safe, clean water free of contaminants and dangerous PFAS chemicals. Newport’s wastewater treatment facility serves a population of over 1,900 with more than 700 residential connections.
