NH delegation seeks update on veterans clinic

New Hampshire’s congressional delegation is seeking an update on the status of a telehealth partnership with Androscoggin Valley Hospital and a part-time Veterans Administration clinic in the North Country.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire’s congressional delegation is seeking an update on the status of a telehealth partnership with Androscoggin Valley Hospital and a part-time Veterans Administration clinic in the North Country.

Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki recently acknowledged the need to address the gap in VA medical care faced by North Country veterans. He indicated the agency would consider locating a part-time clinic in the area.

Currently, veterans living in the North Country must undergo a long and sometimes difficult drive to the nearest clinics in Littleton and Conway to receive care. For more specialized care, they have to travel to the VA Medical Center in White River Junction, Vt.

A telehealth partnership would allow the hospital to deliver health-related services and information via telecommunications technologies.

‘‘We are very grateful that White River Junction Director Deborah Amdur recently visited Androscoggin Valley Hospital,’’ said a letter to Shinseki from Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte and Reps. Carol Shea-Porter and Annie Kuster. ‘‘We are encouraged about the possibility of better serving our North Country veterans with a telehealth partnership and a part-time VA clinic.’’
