Kuster co-sponsors bill to lower beer taxes

U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster is co-sponsoring legislation aimed at boosting business for New Hampshire’s 26 craft beer brewers. The bill would drop the federal excise tax from $7 to $3.50 per barrel on the first 60,000 barrels of beer for breweries that produce fewer than 6 million barrels per year.

HENNIKER, N.H. (AP) — U.S.

Dave Currier of Henniker Brewing Co. told the Concord Monitor (https://bit.ly/1bk959e) that the bill would be a big help, given that nearly half his costs go to state and federal taxes. He says the savings would help start canning his beer in addition to bottling it.

Kuster says her goal is to create jobs and economic development by helping small breweries compete.
