CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire lawmakers both in Washington and Concord are honoring the Old Man of the Mountain 10 years after the granite profile tumbled to the ground.

Friday is the anniversary of the Old Man's fall. The date will be marked with a memorial plaza ceremony in Franconia Notch.

Ahead of that, U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster entered an official statement into the Congressional Record honoring the Old Man, which has long served as the state symbol and still appears on license plates and road signs. She described the Old Man's history and thanked those who raised money for the memorial.

State Sen. Jeff Woodburn, whose district includes Franconia Notch, also recognized those efforts Thursday on the Senate floor. He said New Hampshire residents always will be inspired by the Old Man.
