Kuster Meets with Claremont City Officials, First Responders To Discuss New Emergency Communications System

Claremont, N.H. — Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) met with Claremont City Councilor Nicholas Koloski, Mayor Dale Girard, Police Chief Brent Wilmot, and Fire Chief Jim Chamberlain to hear progress updates on the Claremont Enhanced Communication and Public Safety Assurance Project, for which she secured $963,000. This project, made possible by federal funds, will modernize the city’s public safety communication, software, and record-keeping system. Kuster secured this funding through the Fiscal Year 2024 Community Project Funding appropriations process, which is part of the larger government funding package that the House must pass by the end of the year.

“Our police officers, firefighters, and paramedics go above and beyond the call of duty every day to protect our communities – we must ensure they have the resources to do their jobs safely,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “That starts by ensuring these first responders have the tools and support they need. Thank you to Mayor Girard, Chief Wilmot, and Chief Chamberlain for meeting with me today to discuss their emergency communication project and the impact it will have on the community. I look forward to getting this funding over the finish line!”

“Keeping our communities safe is our number one priority, and these funds will help improve response times and communication across our departments in the communities we serve. We appreciate Congresswoman Kuster’s commitment to ensuring our first responders have the resources and equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Police Chief Brent Wilmot.

“Congresswoman Kuster has always been a strong advocate for firefighters. This communication grant is just another testament to her commitment to supporting firefighters and other first responders in the region,” said Fire Chief Chamberlain.

Kuster is a leading advocate for our first responders in Congress, advancing essential legislation, including:

  • The Eagle Act, provides grants to help our law enforcement officers and stations get new accreditations or recertifications;
  • The FIRE STATION Act, provides grants for fire station construction projects;
  • The Helping Our Hero Act, provides charitable tax deduction opportunities for volunteer firefighters and emergency medical and rescue personnel; and
  • The Supporting Our First Responders Act, awards competitive grants to medical transport and emergency medical services.
