Kuster Announces Winner of 2023 Congressional App Challenge for NH’s Second District

Nashua, N.H. — Today, Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced that Narayan Sajeev, a Nashua High School South senior, has won the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District. The Congressional App Challenge is a national competition aimed at encouraging middle and high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. Narayan’s app, Mpower, is designed to serve as a resource for individuals and families who are struggling with or impacted by substance use disorder.

“The Congressional App Challenge is a wonderful opportunity for students across the country to put their skills to the test and create something new,” said Kuster. “Narayan’s app is a shining example of what is possible when students have the opportunity to learn and apply STEAM education in real life. Congratulations to Narayan on his exceptional submission and to all the students who submitted applications to this year’s competition.”

"Winning the 2023 Congressional App Challenge is an honor that validates the countless hours of hard work and dedication I put into developing Mpower,” said Narayan Sajeev, winner from New Hampshire’s Second District. “My goal was to create a tool that could provide comprehensive support to those affected by drug abuse, and this recognition affirms that I am on the right path. I am grateful for the platform this challenge has given me to raise awareness about the importance of mental health resources in the recovery process."

The Congressional App Challenge was launched by the House of Representatives in 2015 to promote innovation and engagement in computer science. The challenge is intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education. It allows students across the country to compete against their peers by creating an application (“app”) for any platform, including PC, web, tablet, robot, and mobile. The winning app, chosen by a panel of judges, is displayed in the U.S. Capitol.
