New Hampshire Congressional Delegation Reacts to USPS Decision to Move Manchester Mail Distribution to Boston Despite Public Outcry

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) and U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Postal Service’s disappointing decision to move forward with plans to shift mail distribution from the Manchester Processing and Distribution Center to Boston, despite strong opposition from the public:

“The outcry and overwhelming feedback from Granite Staters and postal workers was clear: moving mail processing out of the Manchester facility will significantly impact how Granite Staters get their mail and could result in the loss of good-paying jobs. The voices of Granite Staters should be at the forefront of any decision that could impact mail service; however, the USPS has ignored the public outcry and decided to move forward with its ill-conceived plans to shift these operations to Boston. The New Hampshire Congressional Delegation will continue to fight to ensure everyone in the Granite State has access to prompt and reliable mail and package delivery services.”

The New Hampshire delegation has staunchly supported efforts to ensure Granite Staters can receive mail in a timely manner from the Postal Service. In February, the delegation sent a letter to Postmaster General DeJoy expressing concerns about plans for the Manchester Processing and Distribution Center, noting that they could be damaging to mail service in New Hampshire and urging the USPS to reconsider.

The delegation also raised these concerns at a press conference outside the facility. The USPS received an outpouring of negative feedback from Granite Staters and postal workers, amplified by the Congressional delegation and other stakeholders, on its plans.
