Kuster Discusses Affordable Housing During Tour of Keene’s Roosevelt East School Housing Project

Keene, N.H. — Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) toured Keene Housing’s Roosevelt East affordable housing project to discuss the impact of the $1,000,000 she secured as part of 2024 Congressionally Directed Spending. The project is expected to add 30 affordable apartments during Phase I of construction and an additional 30 units during Phase II, expanding the city’s housing supply for low- and middle-income households.

“Communities across the Granite State are feeling the impact of our state’s housing shortage, and we know that access to affordable, quality housing is critical to our state’s continued economic growth,” said Kuster. “Projects like Roosevelt East will have a positive impact on Keene by expanding access to affordable housing and addressing workforce shortages. I’ll keep fighting to bolster construction and revitalization projects throughout New Hampshire to grow our affordable housing stock and ensure everyone has a safe place to call home.”

“We’re incredibly thankful to Congresswoman Kuster for helping us secure the funding we need to turn the old Roosevelt School into 30 units of new, high-quality, energy-efficient affordable housing. We look forward to breaking ground later this summer, and hopefully having her back for the Grand Opening in the spring of 2026,” said Josh Meehan, Executive Director of Keene Housing.

Kuster is a fierce advocate for expanding New Hampshire’s affordable housing stock. The state is experiencing a severe housing shortage—the statewide rental vacancy rate is 0.5%, and a healthy rate is 5%. The proximity of the Roosevelt East School Housing Project to downtown Keene will allow lower-income Granite Staters to have an affordable home within walking distance to a hub of jobs and amenities, bringing a potential workforce closer to local businesses.
