Our partnership over the past 12 years fills me with hope and optimism about the future of New England and our country, and I am inspired by the friends, colleagues, and advocates I have met and mentored throughout my time in Congress. 

There are many challenges still facing New England and the rest of the country. From increasing access to affordable housing and child care to equipping our workforce with the skills they will need to succeed in the 21st-century economy, Republicans and Democrats will need to come together to deliver real results to ensure our families, businesses, and communities can thrive and succeed.

Our work is not done, and I hope to continue on this journey with each and every one of you, albeit in another role next year. As I look to the future, I am excited by the work and opportunities that lie ahead.

You may have seen in the news this week that the federal government came dangerously close to shutting down.

One of Congress’ most basic responsibilities is to fund the government and keep it serving the American people. But for months, House Republican leadership wasted precious time playing political theater with our economy and national security instead of reaching across the aisle to negotiate a bipartisan compromise with Democrats. 

With less than a week until funding ran out, I was proud to support a short-term agreement to keep the government working for New Hampshire families. Let me be clear: Granite Staters are tired of the seemingly endless chaos and dysfunction that has consumed the Republican caucus and budget process.

In the weeks ahead, Republicans and Democrats will need to come together and negotiate a long-term funding deal that moves our country forward, and I urge Speaker Johnson and Republican leadership to do so in good faith.

This bipartisan bill will help equip rural communities with the support they need to help people recover and thrive.

Far too many families across New Hampshire and the rest of the country—particularly in rural communities—have been impacted by substance use disorder.

This week, I was proud to help introduce legislation to authorize the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program, which will help ensure that even our most rural communities have access to the resources and support they need to save lives.

These resources will help empower communities at the local level.

Also this week, I was pleased to join the New Hampshire Congressional Delegation in welcoming resources made available through the State Opioid Response Program to expand access to the treatment and recovery services New Hampshire needs to tackle this epidemic and save lives.

At a time when overdose deaths are finally falling it’s essential we keep our foot on the gas pedal and harness this momentum, and this critical funding will help connect Granite Staters with the services they need to heal and recover.
