Hello Friends,
Our country has been shaken by the horror and heartbreak of mass shootings time and again, and yet, Congressional Republicans have continued to block overwhelmingly popular and common-sense measures to address gun violence and prevent future tragedies.
Enough is enough.
This week, the House took concrete steps forward to address gun violence and prevent future tragedies. On Wednesday, I was proud to help pass the Protecting Our Kids Act — a slate of important gun violence prevention measures. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to advance this legislation to save lives.

Guns are the number one killer of children in America — more than car accidents or cancer.
|
On Thursday, I voted for the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, legislation to keep guns out of the hands of individuals who pose a serious danger to themselves or others in order to prevent them from doing harm.
Thoughts and prayers are meaningless if they are not accompanied by action. Every Member of Congress has a responsibility to protect the Americans they represent, and this week I brought the voices of Granite Staters to Congress to prevent gun violence while protecting the rights of responsible gun owners.

The Increasing Transparency In Generic Drug Applications Act of 2022 would enable drug companies to bring cost-effective generic medications to the market sooner.
|
High prescription drug costs are putting pressure on far too many Granite Staters — I have heard from countless seniors and families struggling to afford the medications they need.
I’m fighting every day to lower the cost of prescription drugs. This week, the House passed my legislation to bring lower-cost generic drugs to market faster. My bill will help families make ends meet, especially as they face rising prices in the grocery store and at the gas pump. I look forward to the Senate sending this important legislation to the President’s Desk.

I’m working hard to lower prices on everyday necessities – from gas to groceries and housing to health care.
|
This week, I joined my New Democrat Coalition Vice-Chairs in unveiling a comprehensive action plan to fight inflation and cut costs for Americans. I hear from countless New Hampshire families about the rising costs of gas, food, and other necessities. I helped lead a letter to President Biden and congressional leaders calling for the implementation of this plan.
We are also calling on the Biden administration to roll back costly and ineffective Trump-era tariffs, address the workforce shortage, and work to lower costs on everyday necessities, including housing, energy, and health care. In Congress, we are pressing leadership to finalize a bipartisan innovation bill, fight inflation, and quickly advance an affordability agenda to relieve the financial burdens too many American families are feeling.
|
I am proud to be leading this charge in Congress, and I will continue working with Members from both parties to end this epidemic.
|
On Wednesday, I was pleased to help bring together members of the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force with Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Director Dr. Rahul Gupta to talk about our ongoing work to address the addiction crisis. Our country needs a united front when it comes to getting dangerous drugs like fentanyl out of our communities, and this conversation was a productive step forward to address the addiction epidemic, advance evidence-based policies jointly, and finally turn the tide on this crisis.

This funding comes from the American Rescue Plan – New Hampshire is one of the first four states to receive funding through the program.
|
Access to reliable, high-speed internet is essential for all Granite Staters to thrive — that’s why I am focused on closing the digital divide and ensuring every New Hampshire family and small business has access to the broadband services they need.
This week, I was proud to help announce federal funding heading to New Hampshire to connect students, employees, and businesses and strengthen our state’s digital infrastructure.

According to research compiled by the USDA, schools in low-income areas that already participate in universal school meal programs save 67 cents for every lunch and 58 cents for every breakfast served.
|
No child can learn when they are hungry. We are approaching a cliff: at the end of this month, school meal waivers created to offset the impact of COVID-19 on child hunger will expire, leaving students and families without this support.
This week in the House Agriculture Committee, I highlighted how allowing these waivers to expire without taking action will have a detrimental impact on students facing food insecurity. But, it does not have to happen that way. We have been at the ready to advance a reasonable extension in the House and I hope the Senate will get on board to support our families before we reach that cliff.

I will continue working to preserve our planet for generations to come.
|
In order to prevent the worst effects of climate change, we must dramatically reduce the carbon in our atmosphere. Innovative carbon dioxide removal technology has the potential to help us achieve this goal, but we must not take our foot off the pedal.
This week, I was proud to introduce the REMOVE Act with Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH), bipartisan legislation to ensure our country and our government embrace new and emerging technology to curb climate change.
|
This week and every day, we honor the incredible courage and service of our nation’s veterans.
|
Monday marked the 78th anniversary of D-Day. This week, we remember the thousands of brave American and Allied forces who took to the beaches, water, and skies of Normandy on June 6th, 1944, and fought to liberate Europe from Nazi control.
|
My father's service to our nation continues to inspire me every day.
|
This week, I was thinking of my father, Malcolm McLane, who was among those brave, patriotic forces. He flew a patrol mission over the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and completed dozens of missions before being shot down in the Battle of the Bulge and spending six months in a Nazi prisoner of war camp.

January 6th was a dark day for our country, and the January 6th Committee is a bipartisan coalition of Members working to expose the truth and extent of the threat to our country.
|
After 11 months and more than 1,000 interviews, the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob is hosting public hearings to share their initial findings and explain the scheme to stop the transfer of power. I was both a witness and a victim that day – it’s important that the committee tells the American people the full story and sets out recommendations to help ensure nothing like January 6th ever happens again.

We swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
|
Following the hearing on Thursday night, I spoke with Newsy about the work of the January 6th Committee and the importance of their fact-finding mission for our democracy. Watch here: https://youtu.be/hbQriiugbP0.

The landmark Roe v. Wade ruling in 1973 drastically shifted the rights, autonomy, and standing of women in our country.
|
Roe v. Wade empowered women to join the workforce with higher participation and to establish financial independence at an earlier age. This progress is at stake if the Supreme Court overturns the near 50-year precedent ensuring women could make their own personal reproductive decisions.
This interactive tool demonstrates just how much life has changed for women since the Supreme Court ruled on Roe, and illustrates why women’s access to safe, legal abortion and reproductive care is so important: https://wapo.st/3aPl0YA
As always, the CDC and the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services are the best resources to turn to for information about COVID-19. If you are sick, stay home and call your health care provider.
To stay updated on my work in Congress and around the Granite State and for important information and resources, like my page on Facebook and follow me on Twitter.
I hope you have a safe and fun weekend!
Sincerely,
