This week, my work continued bringing the voices of Granite Staters to Congress. I’ve received an outpouring of calls and letters from people throughout New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District urging more support for the people of Ukraine and yesterday, I called on President Joe Biden to quickly ratchet up America’s acceptance of refugees from Ukraine as Russian forces continue their brutal assault.

I will continue working to bolster America’s support for the people of Ukraine as they defend their country and their freedom.

I was pleased that President Joe Biden heeded calls for action and announced that the United States will welcome up to 100,000 refugees from Ukraine amid our broader relief efforts. Ukrainian citizens are fleeing for their lives, and the United States must do its part to help them find safety.

I am proud to advocate for New Hampshire communities in Congress.

The government funding legislation for 2022, which President Joe Biden signed into law earlier this year, included critical support for 10 community-based projects in New Hampshire’s Second District. That means that towns and communities across the Second District will receive resources to make much-needed improvements for their residents.

Importantly, these projects represent New Hampshire tax dollars being returned and reinvested directly into our communities, and I was proud to secure them in Congress.

I will continue working to expand access to quality, affordable care for all Americans.

Since it was signed into law 12 years ago, the Affordable Care Act has strengthened our nation’s health care system and extended health insurance coverage to tens of millions of Americans.

While we continue working to bolster the ACA and improve access to health care for Granite State families and people across the country, we must remain focused on ensuring no one can be denied coverage or charged more due to a preexisting condition.

The first female Secretary of State and a lauded international scholar, Madeleine Albright was a trailblazer and inspiration for women and girls across our country and around the world. Her fearless leadership in the wake of the Cold War and her incisive wisdom won her the respect of leaders across the globe and helped to guide America through some of our most significant international challenges. 

Her legacy of courage and dignity will live on for generations to come.

No Granite Stater should have to worry about losing their home in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m pleased new assistance is available for those at risk of eviction in New Hampshire, and I will continue working to ensure no one is left behind as we recover and rebuild from this crisis.

With the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program, the USDA is helping states and communities access new resources to build a more resilient local food chain and ensure students across the country have access to nutritious meals. Families across the country and the world are feeling the impact of Russia’s brutal assault on Ukraine as global markets and leaders respond. Since Putin began his military build-up on Ukrainian borders, the price of gas at the pump in America went up 75 cents. Congress is closely monitoring the situation and is working tirelessly to address inflation while holding Russia accountable. 

So far, congressional action has included:

✅ Release +90 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve this fiscal year

✅ Speed up – not slow down – our transition to a clean energy future so Putin can't weaponize gas prices

✅ Pursue an all-of-the-above energy portfolio in the short term to bring down costs

The Granite State is home to some of the most beautiful land in the country — I hope you join me in celebrating all that our state has to offer this spring!
