U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01), announced today that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded Brayton Energy in Hampton $1 million and Creare LLC in Hanover $2,999,901, totaling nearly $4 million in federal funds for energy efficiency projects.

“Investing in energy efficiency and renewable programs supports the sustainability of both our environment and economy, which is why I’m so glad to see these federal dollars come back to New Hampshire to boost the important work at Brayton Energy and Creare LLC,” said Shaheen. “Securing federal support for the Department of Energy’s programs that are put to good use here in the Granite State has long been a top priority of mine, and I’ll continue to fight for more funding as the annual appropriations process moves forward.”

The Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) awarded this grant through the ARPA-E’s OPEN+ program. Awardees of this federal funding, including Brayton Energy and Creare LLC, will explore new approaches and technologies for the design and manufacturing of advanced heat exchangers, which can increase the efficiency of energy conversion. Investments that help increase the efficiency of energy conversion are important for both our environment and economy, and could help reduce fuel consumption, costs and emissions.

As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Shaheen has consistently advocated for energy efficiency and renewable programs at the DOE, securing increased funding for several programs in the omnibus funding bill for fiscal year 2018 and as part of funding legislation for fiscal year 2019 that the President signed into law in September.

As a member of the House of Representatives Sustainable Energy & Environment Coalition, Congresswoman Kuster wrote in support of funding for the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) program which allocated the funding for Creare LLC and Brayton Energy.

Senators Shaheen and Hassan announced nearly $2 million through the DOE for Brayton Energy last Fall, as well as a $7.6 million award last Spring.
