Protecting Access to Healthcare for Seniors

On Monday, I toured the Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, which is currently under renovation. I met with Maplewood Staff and Cheshire County government officials to discuss expanding access to quality healthcare for seniors. As our population ages, we must safeguard Medicaid and invest in programs to help ensure seniors can get the care they need. It was immensely valuable to hear from providers at Maplewood Nursing Home and I look forward to sharing their important insights with my colleagues as we continue our fight to improve healthcare delivery nationwide. 

Investing in Medically Assisted Treatment 

I also visited the Cheshire County Department of Corrections (DOC) on Monday to tour the facility and discuss Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) programming for inmates and pre-trial detainees with DOC leadership and medical professionals. Our criminal justice system is often on the front lines of the opioid epidemic and investing in MAT is crucial to taking an active step in addressing this crisis.

Defending Title X Family Planning Funding

I’m deeply concerned with the Trump Administration’s proposed rule changes to Title X, which would undermine healthcare providers, weaken access to care in rural areas, and hinder the ability of patients to obtain critical information concerning their health. The impact of Title X in the Granite State cannot be overstated. I spoke about the disastrous consequences these proposed changes would bring in an Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Hearing on Wednesday.

Ending Campus Sexual Violence

Yesterday, I joined my colleagues, Reps. Jackie Speier, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Alma S. Adams, to reintroduce the Hold Accountable and Lend Transparency (HALT) on Campus Sexual Violence Act, a bipartisan bill that will strengthen prevention efforts and the enforcement of laws to eradicate the epidemic of campus sexual violence and hold perpetrators accountable. We continue to hear extremely alarming stories about the pervasiveness of sexual violence on campuses across the country, and Congress must move with urgency to end this outrageous epidemic. The HALT Act is an important step forward.  

Increasing Funding for the Northern Border Regional Commission

I’m pleased the House unanimously passed my bipartisan amendment to increase funding for the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC). The NBRC has created and expanded economic opportunity in some of the most underserved communities in New Hampshire, and this is a worthwhile, smart and strategic use of federal funds to encourage economic and community development.

Removing Barriers to Graduate Education

On Wednesday, I joined my colleagues, Reps. Tim Burchett, Kim Schrier, Fred Upton and Harley Rouda to introduce the Expanding Access to Graduate Education Act, which would allow students who received a Pell Grant during their undergraduate education to utilize their remaining Pell eligibility towards their first graduate degree. As occupations requiring a master’s degree continue to grow, we need to make sure those who wish to fill these jobs are not prevented from doing so because of the high cost of graduate school. This legislation will help remove some of the barriers that many Americans face in their pursuit of post-graduate opportunities, reduce student debt, and ensure workers have the skills they need to succeed in the jobs of the future—a win-win for students and our economy.
