A budget deal for NH families
Washington, D.C.,
February 9, 2018
Dear Friend, It’s encouraging that Republicans and Democrats have put aside partisan differences to pass a budget that will benefit middle class families and advance priorities important to the Granite State. This budget provides $6 billion in critical resources for those on the frontlines of the opioid crisis. It also includes support for our veterans and military servicemembers, our dairy farmers, children’s health insurance, community health centers, and disaster relief funding. I’m hopeful we can continue this bipartisan momentum and come together behind comprehensive immigration reform that will provide protections for young Dreamers brought to the United States as children.
At the beginning of this week, I had the honor of hosting Amanda Jordan of Salem and her mother Joanne Lawler for a Heroin Task Force roundtable event in Washington, where they helped raise awareness about the impact of substance use disorder on families. Amanda lost her son Christopher to an overdose in 2015, and she and her mother are showing incredible strength and courage by sharing their personal experience. Raising awareness about the toll substance use disorder takes on families is critical for ending the stigma that often deters people from seeking help, and I will continue to work across the aisle to break that stigma and end this crisis. On Tuesday, I had the chance to discuss the importance of the Northern Border Regional Commission with Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue. This regional commission is imperative to our rural development and prosperity for all Granite Staters. I look forward to working with Secretary Perdue and my colleagues on the Agriculture Committee to ensure that funding for this commission will be included in the 2018 Farm Bill.
On Wednesday, I took part in the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) 28th Annual National Leadership Forum. It was wonderful to meet with incredible leaders from the Granite State and around the country who are working to end the opioid crisis, and I know that if we work together, we will tackle this ongoing problem that is tearing families apart. Thank you for your incredible contributions to our great state, and I hope you enjoy your weekend! Sincerely, |
