Dear Friends,

I hope you all had a great long weekend! It’s been a busy and productive week in the Granite State. I’ve had the opportunity to travel all over the Second District the last few days and have loved visiting with and hearing from my constituents along the way. 

On Tuesday, I visited New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) in Concord to introduce a new piece of legislation that I am very excited about. Making sure that our children have the necessary education and skill sets to best equip them for jobs in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is essential, especially given the ever growing demand for jobs in these areas. The Early STEM Achievement Act would establish a competitive grant program to provide assistance for early childhood STEM programs and teacher training. It is an important step in our work to ensure that the next generation has an educational foundation that will help them succeed later in life, and I strongly urge my colleagues in Washington to pass this legislation.

I joined veterans, local healthcare providers, and VA officials in Berlin today to discuss the effectiveness of the new coordinated North Country Veterans Choice Model of Care program. While the Choice program has had some challenges in implementation, it is through events and conversations like this that we are able to come together to work through challenges and strengthen the program. As a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, making sure that our veterans are receiving the best care possible is, and will always be, one of my top priorities.

Excellent discussion in Lebanon on Thursday. I will continue to advocate for the improvement--rather than repeal--of the Affordable Care Act!

This week, I also participated in listening sessions in Lebanon and Berlin to discuss rural health care. Senators Shaheen and Hassan joined me for the Berlin session. At both events, we discussed how vital the Affordable Care Act has been to rural communities throughout New Hampshire. Repealing the ACA would have serious negative impacts on rural communities throughout the Granite State, and the nation as a whole. 

It was great to be joined by Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Senator Maggie Hassan to discuss the Affordable Care Act in Berlin! 

During a time in which so much seems uncertain, we must continue to fight for those who need our help the most. To that end, I wanted to share an exciting casework success with you. Over the past few weeks, I have been working with Dr. Omid Moghimi, who works at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, to reunite him with his wife, Dorsa Razi. Dorsa traveled to the United States after the President’s executive order on immigration was blocked, but was unable to join her husband at their home. I am thrilled to report that after a few very difficult weeks, Dorsa and Dr. Moghimi were reunited on Wednesday. America should continue to serve as a beacon of hope around the world, and I am proud to have been able to help bring this young couple back together.
