Supporting people in our communities who are suffering from mental illness is so critical. Unfortunately, due to the stigma associated with mental illness, many individuals have struggled to access the resources necessary to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. That's why I joined Justice John Broderick to address an assembly of students and faculty members at Nashua High School North today about the Campaign to Change Direction, which is spreading awareness of the Five Signs of Mental Illness and working to change the culture of mental health in America. This campaign will not only bring additional support to those suffering, but will encourage a broader, more involved discussion about the impacts of mental illness on our state and our country, and the steps we can take to create a stronger system of care. 

Speaking to Nashua High School North students about the Campaign to Change Direction

I was excited that this week, the Canadian parliament approved a bilateral border security agreement that allows bipartisan legislation I introduced to move forward. My bill —the Promoting Travel, Commerce, and National Security Act - will facilitate trade between the United States and Canada and was signed into law by the President. Expanding preclearance facilities at land, marine and rail ports of entry will encourage economic growth in New Hampshire and other northern border states by creating jobs and more opportunities for small businesses to reach customers. This commonsense legislation, which will strengthen security along our northern border and boost tourism, is a win for New Hampshire and communities across the country.

As your Representative, my most important job is supporting Granite Staters when they need help. Last month, I was contacted by a woman named Kathleen Ackroyd from Salem who was in serious need of a new wheelchair. My staff worked with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to expedite the process and ensure Kathleen will receive her new chair in a timely manner.
