This week, I had the honor of the hosting Chessy Prout as my guest at the State of the Union. I’ve been inspired by the courage of Chessy in coming forward with her experiences with sexual assault and her powerful advocacy on behalf of survivors everywhere.

At the State of the Union, Chessy and I wore black to show our support for survivors of sexual harassment and assault. The conversation about sexual harassment and assault in our nation is long overdue but through the efforts of Chessy and the #MeToo movement it is finally gaining steam. Yesterday, I met with community, business and education leaders at Cheshire Career Center in Keene to discuss efforts to support skills training and workforce development programs in the Monadnock Region. Today’s rapidly changing economy demands that workers are able to access the training to fit the jobs of the 21st century, and the insights of these participants is critical as I work with my colleagues to develop policies that will increase opportunity for people across New Hampshire and around the country.

As your Representative, my most important job is supporting Granite Staters when they need help. In December I was contacted by Charles Beno of Beno Management Company in Bristol. Mr. Beno had not received Housing Assistance payments that had been due on December 1st. These funds are critical to keeping Indian River Apartments, a HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) subsidized low income elder housing project in Canaan in operation. My staff worked with HUD and helped rectify the problem to get Indian River Apartments the funds that were needed.
