Lebanon, NH – Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, visited the Lebanon Public Works facility to tour the space and hear from city officials and local partners about Lebanon’s innovative energy initiatives. In 2017, Lebanon committed to the goals outlined in the Paris Climate Accord and was the first city in New Hampshire to hire a full-time staff member dedicated to energy issues and sustainability. The city is currently working on projects involving energy efficiency, solar power, landfill gas to energy, residential battery storage to reduce the cost of electricity, and establishing a community power program.

“The city of Lebanon serves as a great example of the potential for creative solutions to address climate change,” said Kuster “We have much work ahead of us, but with smart policies, taking on the climate crisis will be a win-win when we reduce greenhouse gas emissions, spur economic growth, and help save our planet. I look forward to taking the insights I heard today back to my colleagues in Washington, and I will continue my efforts to protect our environment for future generations.”

Congresswoman Kuster is a co-sponsor of the Climate Action Now Act, which would require the Trump Administration to remain in the Paris Climate Accord and to establish a plan for how the United States will meet its commitment to reduce pollution. She has been vocal about the need to address climate change and has pushed back against the decision by President Trump to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord.
