**Legislation would limit environmental review of large energy projects and natural gas pipelines**

Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on two anti-environment pieces of legislation that were voted on yesterday by the U.S. House of Representatives. Kuster voted against H.R. 2910, which would consolidate approval power at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and undermine the ability of other agencies to participate in the environmental review process. She also voted against H.R. 2883, which would remove the requirement for cross-border energy projects to acquire a Presidential permit.

“The legislation that was considered on the floor yesterday represents a continued effort by House Republicans to undermine key environmental protections for large-scale energy projects and limit public engagement and consultation by impacted communities.  At a time when fossil fuel infrastructure has expanded at unprecedented rates, it is imperative that local citizens and communities have a seat at the table during FERC proceedings. These bills undermine critical environmental protections that have been in place for decades, and limit the public’s ability to have their voices heard on projects that run through their backyard. I’ll continue to fight these misguided efforts to roll back protections for communities and our environment.”
