Kuster Votes For Bipartisan Legislation To Protect Older Workers In New Hampshire

**The Protect Older Job Applicants Act of 2021 prohibits employers from limiting, segregating, or classifying job applicants based on an applicant's age**

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) voted in favor of H.R. 3992, the Protect Older Job Applicants (POJA) Act to prevent older workers in New Hampshire and across the country from being discriminated against during the job application process. Currently, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) does not cover job applicants seeking relief from age discrimination. This bipartisan legislation would prohibit employers from limiting or classifying job applicants based on age.

“Employers in New Hampshire benefit from the diversity of our workforce, and that includes workers of different ages,” said Rep. Annie Kuster. “Today, I was proud to vote for bipartisan legislation to protect older Granite State job applicants from being discriminated against during the hiring process based on their age. As businesses in New Hampshire struggle with workforce shortages, this legislation will help ensure older Granite Staters who wish to work won’t be disadvantaged or discouraged from entering or remaining in the workforce.”

Rep. Kuster is a leading voice in Congress to support our nation’s employees and employers. During her Build Back Better Tour of the North Country earlier this year, Kuster met with local business owners and community leaders to discuss the ongoing needs of their communities and how the American Rescue Plan and other federal resources are bolstering the region’s recovery. Kuster also led the national charge to safely re-open the U.S.-Canada border to bolster the tourism industry and reunite families. Following Kuster’s activism, President Biden announced plans to re-open the northern border to fully-vaccinated tourists later this month.
