Portsmouth, N.H. — Today, Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) welcomed President Joe Biden to New Hampshire to highlight the impact of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, a once-in-a-generation investment in our nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness, for the Granite State. Rep. Kuster played a leading role in Congress to get this innovative plan over the finish line and helped to secure New Hampshire priorities in the package, including clean energy investments and PFAS clean-up funding.

“The innovative, forward-thinking bipartisan infrastructure package has not only breathed new life into our communities but opened doors and unlocked new potential for our economy,” said Rep. Kuster. “I was proud to welcome President Joe Biden back to New Hampshire today to talk about the long-term effects of this legislation and the impact it is having on our Granite State towns, communities, schools, families, and seniors. From bolstering rural broadband access to cleaning up PFAS in our drinking water, I was proud to get this historic legislation over the finish line to keep New Hampshire’s infrastructure competitive for generations to come.”

Rep. Kuster continued, “During my time with the president, I highlighted the many conversations I have had with families across the state about the importance of lowering gas prices and tamping down inflation as well as expanding workforce training resources. I look forward to building on these conversations in the weeks to come and delivering real relief for New Hampshire families.”

The bipartisan infrastructure law delivered critical investments in New Hampshire, including:

  • $1.1 billion in federal highway funds and $225 million for bridge repairs to keep our critical infrastructure safe.
  • $66 billion for federal rail investments to help improve the existing Amtrak service in New Hampshire and provide the state with additional federal resources to build the Capitol Corridor Project.
    • The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act provides $250 million to cover credit risk premiums for Railroad Rehabilitation Improvement Financing (RRIF) loans. This will make it more affordable for states like New Hampshire to use RRIF as a source of funding for passenger rail projects and was inspired by Rep. Kuster’s bipartisan Invest in American Railroads Act
  • $100 million to expand broadband coverage around the state to help Granite Staters stay connected.
  • Approximately $418 million over the next five years to improve water infrastructure across the state. With some municipalities operating with water infrastructure over 100 years old, this historic investment will deliver important resources to New Hampshire communities in need.
  • $2.4 billion federal investment in rehabilitating, retrofitting, and removing dams to improve dam safety, increase hydropower production to reduce carbon emissions, and remove dams to enhance the health of river ecosystems.
    • Many of the dam investments are based on Rep. Kuster’s bipartisan Twenty-First Century Dams Act
  • $65 billion to modernize our nation’s electric grid for a clean electricity future, $7.5 billion to build out a national network of electric vehicle charging infrastructure to help us decarbonize the transportation sector, $4.7 billion to reduce methane emissions across the country by plugging old oil wells, and $3.5 billion to advance direct air capture technology to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
