Dear Friend,

I hope you had a wonderful Independence Day! The Fourth of July is an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of American Independence and our American values which make the United States a beacon of hope around the world. In addition to gathering with friends and family for barbeques, parades, and fireworks displays, it’s important that we also take the time to thank those who have served and sacrificed so much to defend the freedoms we cherish and hold dear. We ask a lot of our men and women in uniform and of their families, and we can never thank them enough for all they do to protect the liberties we take for granted. 

Last Friday, I met with the Salem Fire Department to discuss Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants and the work being done to bring on more firefighters at the department so they are able to respond to the high demand for services in the community. New Hampshire first responders put themselves at risk every day to protect our communities. I'm a strong supporter of the SAFER Grant program because we need to ensure our firefighters, who we ask so much of, have the resources they need. Our fire departments are not just putting out fires, they are also responding to a wide variety of medical emergencies and are an important part of the frontlines tackling the opioid epidemic.

I also met with the Salem Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Salem Rotary Club on Friday to discuss my work in Washington and receive feedback on what more Congress can be doing to support Granite Staters on important issues like expanding our economy, improving veterans’ access to care, and combating the opioid epidemic. I’ve learned so much from the people of New Hampshire during visits like these, and I’ll continue to work with Granite Staters and my colleagues to fight for the issues that make New Hampshire great. 

Speaking to the Salem Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club

Today, I joined the grand opening of the TwinState MakerSpace in Claremont, which was made possible by a $250,000 grant from the Northern Border Regional Commission in 2015. The completion of this project is special for me, as I had the honor of supporting TwinState MakerSpace, Inc. when they applied for the funding. The MakerSpace is a nonprofit that offers conventional and hi-tech tools, communal workspace, rentable studio space, training in equipment use and techniques, and events focused on the arts, manufacturing, technology, and entrepreneurship. The opening of this space will have an immensely positive effect on tourism, the workforce, the economy and on so many residents of Claremont and the surrounding communities. It’s truly a wonderful facility, and it will benefit the people of our state for years to come.

As your Representative, my most important job is supporting Granite Staters when they need help with federal agencies. I was recently contacted by John Saliba of Franconia, who needed assistance obtaining a copy of his Honorable Military Separation Document from the US Army. My staff worked with the National Personnel Record Center and helped get John his discharge certificate.
