As a lifelong skier and co-chair of the Congressional Ski and Snowboard Caucus, it was wonderful to take part in Ski NH’s Annual Conference and Trade Show last week in Bretton Woods. I’m honored to receive their Chandler/McLane Government Service Award. Skiing is an important part of our identity and economy in New Hampshire and in many communities across the country, and I will continue to advocate for the industry in Congress.

On Saturday, I visited Schilling Brewery in Littleton to celebrate the expansion of their brewing facility. Walking around downtown and along the Riverwalk, it’s clear that Littleton is thriving and open for business. Schilling Brewery is a staple of the community, and I send my sincere congratulations to the Cozzens family and everyone who made the expansion possible. Tourism is a critical component of our economy in New Hampshire, and no visit to the Granite State is complete without a trip to the North Country and a stop in Littleton.

I’m troubled by the new requirement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that maple producers include “added sugar” labels on their packaging. Maple syrup production is an important part of New Hampshire’s economy and this labeling is misleading to consumers and could potentially harm producers’ economic well-being. I’ve joined a bipartisan effort to call on the FDA to abandon this flawed policy and I will continue working to support the Granite State’s maple syrup industry.
