Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on the meeting between President Trump, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on how to move forward on an infrastructure package. Initial reports indicate that the discussions yielded a preliminary agreement on $2 trillion in infrastructure improvements:

“I’m encouraged that the White House and Congressional Leaders have had a productive conversation about how we can work together across the aisle to improve our nation’s decaying infrastructure,” said Kuster. “The safety of our nation’s roads, bridges, waterways, and water treatment infrastructure should not be a partisan issue. Investing in our nation’s infrastructure including expanding rural broadband is about ensuring public safety and our economic competitiveness. I’m hopeful these discussions will be an important step toward providing the Granite State with the resources necessary to make significant infrastructure improvements that will bolster economic growth now and in the future.”

Congresswoman Kuster has long advocated for increased federal investment in New Hampshire’s transportation network. Kuster helped secure a $200 million low-interest loan through the federal Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program to help complete the I-93 project. Last year, she helped secure more than $2.5 million in federal grants to strengthen transportation infrastructure in Nashua and Southeastern New Hampshire, and announced $10 million in funding to improve I-89. Kuster has also pushed for resources to expand broadband to rural communities and has discussed the importance of this issue with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.
