Kuster Blasts Supreme Court Ruling on Online Sales Tax
Washington, DC,
June 21, 2018
Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) today blasted the Supreme Court’s ruling in South Dakota v. Wayfair, which paves the way for companies in New Hampshire to be forced to collect sales tax for other states. This ruling will subject New Hampshire small businesses to thousands of separate tax jurisdictions across the country. Kuster has been a vocal opponent of efforts to impose an online sales tax and joined a brief urging the Supreme Court to reject South Dakota’s effort to impose sales tax across state lines. “Simply put, this is a devastating ruling for small companies in New Hampshire that sell their products online,” said Kuster. “Small businesses in our state are not accustomed to collecting sales tax and this misguided ruling will subject them to thousands of taxing jurisdictions and burdensome red tape across the country. Online retail is a critical part of our economy, and this decision will have a real negative impact for small businesses and people in New Hampshire.” ### |
