Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) helped introduce legislation to create a commission to evaluate and review federal regulations. The Regulatory Improvement Act of 2017, led by Representative Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-09), would establish the Regulatory Improvement Commission to evaluate and provide recommendations and proposed legislation for modification, consolidation, or repeal of outdated, unnecessary, and over burdensome regulations.

“Congress needs to be pragmatic about the needs of businesses and constituents who too often find themselves tangled in bureaucratic red tape when dealing with the federal government,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “We can protect our environment, public health, and safety while reviewing outdated or inefficient regulations that are unnecessarily burdening our small businesses. This commonsense approach stands in stark contrast to the President’s recent executive order, which arbitrarily eliminates regulations and could jeopardize important protections for the public wellbeing. I hope my colleagues will join me in support of this legislation that will encourage economic growth and job creation in New Hampshire and across the country.”

The Regulatory Improvement Commission would examine regulations with the purpose of reducing compliance costs, encouraging growth and innovation, improving competitiveness, and protecting public safety. Any recommendations by the Commission would be subject to a public comment period before being considered by both houses of Congress.
