Kuster Votes To Support Small New Hampshire Banks, Improve Financial Equity

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) voted for the Financial Services Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Economic Justice Act, a package of bills focused on promoting racial and economic justice. Kuster submitted an amendment to this legislation that would study and report on the effects of and recommendations for implementation for smaller, community banks.

“Every Granite Stater deserves equal access to financial services and economic mobility, regardless of the color of their skin or who they love,” said Rep. Kuster. “I was proud to vote for this legislation today to help expand economic justice and access in New Hampshire and across the country. I was also pleased that my amendment to ensure new initiatives and programs are administratively feasible for local banks was included. I will continue working to strengthen our Granite State economy to make sure it works for everyone.”

Kuster has been a strong advocate for Granite State consumers and personal privacy. Last year, she called on Congressional leadership to remove the IRS reporting provision from the reconciliation package that would create a new tax information reporting regime under the Department of Treasury and require local banks and credit unions in New Hampshire to report annual inflows and outflows to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) annually, raising privacy concerns for the majority of bank account holders.
