Kuster Votes To Protect VA Health Care Workers

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) voted for bipartisan legislation to protect health care workers at Veterans Affairs hospitals. The VA Employee Fairness Act, which Kuster cosponsored, will ensure that VA’s Title 38 health care professionals — including nurses, physicians, dentists, and physician assistants who serve our veterans — have the same workplace rights currently granted to other VA clinicians and federal employees.

“The health care professionals who care for our nation’s veterans deserve the same protections at work as other federal employees,” said Kuster. “These doctors, nurses, and other care providers work day in and day out to serve those who served us – and we must ensure they are protected at work. I was proud to help introduce this legislation and urge the Senate to act quickly to send this bill to the president’s desk.”

Kuster is an outspoken advocate for our nation’s service members, veterans, and their families. She led the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act, legislation to expand veterans benefits for 90,000 Navy veterans who served in the coastal waters of Vietnam and are impacted by toxic exposure as a result of their service. Kuster also helped get the Honoring Our PACT Act signed into law. This comprehensive, bipartisan legislation finally recognizes military toxic exposure — from contaminated water at military bases, airborne hazards from burn pits, agent orange in and beyond Vietnam, or radiation from atomic testing — and provides health care for as many as 3.5 million veterans exposed to toxins.
