Congresswoman Kuster Touring La Cite Ecologique Eco-Village in Colebrook

(Colebrook, NH) - Yesterday, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) visited La Cite Ecologique Eco-Village, where she toured the facility and met with local farmers and stakeholders to discuss the 2018 Farm Bill, which covers programs related to farming, nutrition, conservation, forestry and rural development. 

“It was wonderful to tour the Eco-Village and hear from local farmers and those in the agriculture industry regarding what is working, what needs to be changed, and what can be done in the future to support and promote a robust forestry and agricultural economic sector,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “As a lifelong Granite Stater, I understand that rural development and the continuation of sustainable forestry practices are important to the growth of New Hampshire’s economy,  and I will continue fighting to ensure that Granite State farmers benefit from this important five-year authorization.”

Congresswoman Kuster was joined at the visit by representatives from La Cite Ecologique, the North Country Farmers Co-op, the North Country marketplace, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA-Farm Service Agency, UNH Cooperative Extension, and other organizations.

“We were so grateful to have Congresswoman Kuster visit us at Cite Ecologique,” said Leonie Brien, the Eco-Village’s Coordinator for Community Development. “It was great to see how much she cares about the agriculture community in New Hampshire. She took to time listen to everyone’s concerns and discussed her work on the House Agriculture Committee. We appreciate her hard work, and look forward to having her visit again.”

As the first Representative from New Hampshire to serve on the House Agriculture Committee in decades, Congresswoman Kuster continues to advocate for the Granite State’s richly diverse agricultural industry. To date this year, she has introduced legislation reauthorizing the Northern Border Regional Commission, as well as the Homegrown Organic Act and the Improving Access to Farm Conservation Act, which will reform and improve USDA National Resource Conservation Service programs.
