Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), a member of the House Agriculture Committee, questioned Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue about the importance of the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) and urged for the inclusion of the NBRC funding in the upcoming Farm Bill. Last year, Kuster introduced the bipartisan Northern Border Regional Commission Reauthorization Act, which would continue funding for the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) and extend its authorization for five years. Kuster also asked Secretary Perdue about his commitment to expanding broadband internet services in rural communities.

“The Northern Border Regional Commission has been an important economic development tool for rural communities in much of New Hampshire,” said Kuster. “It’s disappointing that President Trump would single out such a successful program for elimination, but I’m encouraged that Secretary Perdue appreciates the need for programs such as the NBRC. As we look to boost economic opportunity throughout the Granite State, supporting rural communities through NBRC projects and expanding broadband internet services will be crucial. I look forward to working with Secretary Perdue and my colleagues on the Agriculture Committee to advance Granite State priorities as we craft the 2018 Farm Bill.”
