Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), the first Representative from New Hampshire to serve on the House Agriculture Committee in decades, decried the decision by Committee Chairman Rep. Conaway to move forward with a partisan Farm Bill:

“This House Republican Farm Bill is a missed opportunity for New Hampshire farmers and family farms across the country. I am deeply disappointed that Republican leadership on the House Agriculture Committee decided to advance a partisan Farm Bill. Congress works best when Republicans and Democrats put politics aside and come together to advance mutual goals for American farmers and families. The Farm Bill is historically a bipartisan piece of legislation, but the proposals being advanced by Chairman Mike Conaway simply go too far. The Republican drafted bill would slash hundreds of millions of dollars in mandatory funding for conservation programs, roll back critical protections from harmful pesticides and lead to thousands of Granite State families losing nutrition assistance. This bill cuts over $23 billion in benefits to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which supports nearly 92,000 food insecure people in New Hampshire. I remain ready to work across the aisle as soon as my Republican colleagues are ready to put partisanship aside to do right by families across the country.”
