Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), a member of the House Agriculture Committee and a Conferee on the House Farm Bill Conference Committee, outlined priorities for inclusion in the 2018 Farm Bill that will benefit small family farms in New Hampshire, rural communities, and vulnerable New Hampshire residents who need food assistance. Kuster specifically highlighted the importance of working across the aisle to protect New Hampshire’s dairy producers, enhance conservation efforts, invest in USDA-Rural development, reauthorize the Northern Border Regional Commission, and protect the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Speaking of the need to include these provisions in the Farm Bill, Kuster said, “we can only achieve these measures if we put politics aside and work in a bipartisan manner to deliver a much needed Farm Bill for our agriculture community. I stand ready and willing to work with anybody in this room to craft a Farm Bill that provides long-term certainty for Granite State farmers.”

The Farm Bill, which is reauthorized every five years by Congress, covers programs related to agriculture, such as nutrition, conservation, forestry, and rural development. The current Farm Bill expires on September 30, 2018.
